The basic requirements for obtaining a new passport for Indians are as follows:
- Proof of Identity: You need to provide proof of identity, which can be done through documents such as Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving license, PAN card, or school/college ID card.
- Proof of Address: You also need to provide proof of your current residential address. This can be done through documents such as Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving license, telephone or electricity bill, bank passbook, or rent agreement.
- Birth Certificate: A copy of your birth certificate needs to be submitted as proof of date of birth.
- Passport Size Photographs: You need to attach recent passport size photographs with a white background. The specifications for the photograph are usually provided on the official passport website.
- Declaration and Annexures: Fill in the application form completely and accurately, along with any required declarations and annexures. These forms can be downloaded from the official passport website.
- Fee Payment: Pay the required fee for the passport application. The fee varies based on the type of passport (normal or tatkal) and the number of pages.

- Police Verification: The police verification process will be conducted after you have submitted your application. This is done to verify your identity and address.
- Appointment: Schedule an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Passport Office for submitting the application form and supporting documents. You can do this through the official passport website.
- It is important to note that the requirements may vary slightly depending on your specific circumstances, such as whether you are applying for a regular passport or a diplomatic passport. It is recommended to visit the official passport website for the most up-to-date information and specific requirements based on your situation.
