For the busy Mumbai family, the serene heights of North Bengal and Sikkim offer the ultimate respite from the humid coastal bustle. Navigating the mountain terrain requires local precision. We understand that Mumbai travelers value punctuality, comfort, and complete transparency. That’s why our signature Darjeeling and gangtok tour package meticulously manages the complex logistics of the region. From securing inner-line permits for high-altitude glacial lakes to coordinating sector-wise private vehicle transfers, SunRaj Travels handles the details while your family focuses on the breathtaking views.

Best Time to Plan Your Darjeeling & Gangtok

When booking a package tour to Darjeeling and gangtok, aligning your dates with the ideal weather windows is critical for clear mountain views.

  • Spring Splendor (March to May): The most popular time for Mumbai families. Expect clear skies, blooming rhododendrons, and perfect temperatures for sightseeing.

  • Autumn Clarity (October to December): Offers the absolute highest visibility for the Kanchenjunga mountain range, accompanied by crisp, invigorating winter air.

  • Monsoon Lushness (June to September): The region receives heavy rainfall; while beautiful for landscape photography, mountain roads frequently experience transit delays.

The 3-Night / 4-Day Darjeeling & Gangtok Itinerary

Our fast-paced Darjeeling and Gangtok tour package is engineered to maximize sightseeing windows across both destinations without compromising on flight departure safety buffers.

1. Day 1: Arrival at IXB & Transit to Darjeeling (The Queen of Hills): Bagdogra to Hills.

Upon landing at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) from Mumbai, meet our dedicated representative and begin your scenic climb up to Darjeeling (6,700 ft). As you leave the plains behind, feel the air turn crisp and refreshing. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening at leisure strolling along the historic Mall Road, soaking in the old-world colonial charm. Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

2. Day 2: Tiger Hill Sunrise & Transfer to Gangtok (Sikkim):Sunrise & Inter-State Transit.

A 4:00 AM early start takes you to Tiger Hill to witness the world-famous sunrise over the Kanchenjunga massif (subject to permit availability). On the return, visit the historic Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop war memorial.

Post breakfast, explore the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and the Himalayan Zoo (Note: Closed on Thursdays). You can also experience the panoramic Darjeeling Ropeway (Note: Closed on the 19th of every month) before we depart on a scenic drive along the Teesta River to Gangtok, the vibrant capital of Sikkim. Overnight stay in Gangtok.

3. Day 3: Mystical Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir Excursion: High-Altitude Border Excursion.

Today, your package tour to Darjeeling and Gangtok climbs toward the Indo-China border region. Visit the sacred, high-altitude Tsomgo Lake and the legendary Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, situated at an incredible 12,400 ft. Enjoy the dramatic, snow-capped vistas of East Sikkim. Return to Gangtok for a relaxed evening stroll through the clean, pedestrianized eco-zone of MG Marg. Overnight stay in Gangtok.

4. Day 4: Gangtok to Bagdogra Airport (Departure for Mumbai):Descent to Plains.

After a hearty breakfast, begin your vehicle descent back down to Bagdogra Airport. We maintain a mandatory 2-hour safety buffer for all departures on this leg to account for unpredictable hill traffic and highway bottlenecks, ensuring you reach your Mumbai-bound return flight comfortably.

Important Hill Logistics & Union Regulations

Mountain transit across North Bengal and the state of Sikkim is strictly regulated by local transport syndicates. To ensure a smooth journey, we outline these operational rules upfront.

1. Point-to-Point Vehicle Policy (Not at Disposal)

In the Eastern Himalayas, private tourist vehicles operate on a strict, sector-wise, point-to-point basis. This means vehicles are assigned to specific legs and are not “at your disposal” for random detours. The dedicated car that drops you at your Darjeeling hotel will not be the same vehicle executing your Gangtok sightseeing. This system is mandated by local transport unions to guarantee driver familiarity with treacherous mountain terrains.

2. Strict Tiger Hill Sunrise Permits

The early morning route to Tiger Hill is heavily restricted by the regional administration to prevent traffic gridlock. Passes are issued via a strict manual token system a day prior and are subject to availability. While SunRaj Travels makes every priority effort to secure these tokens for our guests, they cannot be guaranteed due to seasonal government quotas.

3. Documentation for Sikkim Permits

Tsomgo Lake is located in a restricted border zone. Travelers must provide 4 passport-sized photographs and a valid government-issued photo ID card (voter ID, passport, or driving license; Aadhaar cards are frequently rejected by border security checkposts) on Day 1 to ensure seamless permit clearance.

Reviews from Our Mumbai Travelers

SunRaj Travels made our family holiday from Mumbai completely stress-free. We were slightly anxious about the vehicle changes we read about online, but the transitions between Darjeeling and Sikkim were seamless. The early morning view from Tiger Hill was spectacular!

Impeccably managed circuit! They proactively warned us about the Himalayan Zoo being closed on Thursdays, allowing us to reshuffle our sightseeing early. The 2-hour road buffer for our flight back to Mumbai was an absolute lifesaver given the heavy traffic near Siliguri.”
The Kulkarni Family, Thane

Incredibly reliable. SunRaj understands the ground-level logistics of the North East much better than the automated booking portals. Highly recommended for any family wanting comfort without the headache of managing mountain permits.
