Overview

Walk among the clouds on India’s first glass skywalk and witness the first light of dawn on Mt. Kanchenjunga with SunRaj Travels.

For Mumbai families, transitioning from bustling coastal life to the serene heights of the Eastern Himalayas is a soul-stirring journey. At SunRaj Travels, we specialize in bridging the gap between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Bagdogra Airport (IXB), ensuring that your arrival into the mystical realms of Gangtok, Pelling, and Darjeeling is as seamless as the mountain mist.

Navigating the complex logistics of a comprehensive sikkim darjeeling trip requires local expertise. From managing high-altitude transitions to coordinating the unique transport regulations of the hills, SunRaj Travels acts as your dedicated ground partner. We ensure that while the geography changes, your comfort remains constant, allowing you to focus entirely on the majestic views of the Kanchenjunga range rather than the complexities of mountain permits.

Planning a Tour to Sikkim & Darjeeling: Seasonal Highlights

When choosing a tour of the Sikkim-Darjeeling layout, timing your visit dictates what panoramic mountain vistas, festivals, or weather conditions your family will experience.

  • Peak Spring Window (March to May): The most popular season for Mumbai travelers seeking relief from coastal humidity. Enjoy crystal-clear sky conditions, pleasant hill temperatures, and blooming orchids.

  • The Autumn Horizon (October to November): Ideal for unobstructed views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The post-monsoon air is crisp, cool, and highly recommended for photography.

  • The Winter Blanket (December to February): Perfect for travelers seeking sub-zero mountain temperatures, peaceful sightseeing, and occasional snow encounters in high-altitude zones.

Detailed 6 Nights / 7 Days Sikkim & Darjeeling Itinerary

Our Darjeeling and Sikkim tour package is strategically mapped to optimize driving times between major valleys while maximizing sightseeing hours at each stop.

1. Day 1: Arrival at IXB & Scenic Drive to Gangtok: Bagdogra to Gangtok.

Meet our dedicated corporate representative upon landing at Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Begin a scenic uphill climb following the Teesta River to Gangtok, the vibrant capital of Sikkim (5,500 ft). Check into your handpicked hotel and enjoy the refreshing, cool mountain breeze while strolling along the pedestrianized eco-street of MG Marg in the evening. Overnight stay in Gangtok.

2. Day 2: Mystical Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir Excursion: High-Altitude Glacial Lake.

Depart for an early morning excursion toward the Indo-China border to visit the sacred Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft) and the historic Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. Appreciate the dramatic mountain landscapes and snow-capped passes. (Note: High-altitude protected area permits are mandatory and completely managed by the SunRaj team). Overnight stay in Gangtok.

3. Day 3: Gangtok to Pelling via Namchi Chardham: South Sikkim Temples.

Embark on a picturesque cross-valley drive down to Pelling. En route, stop in Namchi to explore Siddheshwar Dham (Chardham), a magnificent cultural complex featuring a majestic 108-foot statue of Lord Shiva flanked by replicas of India’s sacred shrines. Continue your drive into the quiet, scenic hills of West Sikkim. Overnight stay in Pelling.

4. Day 4: Pelling Sightseeing & India’s First Glass Skywalk: Glasss Skywalk Experience.

Experience the thrill of walking above the valleys on India’s first Glass Skywalk, positioned directly opposite the monumental Chenrezig Statue. Later, discover local natural marvels, including the wish-fulfilling Khecheopalri Lake and the cascading Rimbi Waterfalls. (Note: Expect short walks and mild stairs around the Skywalk platform area). Overnight stay in Pelling.

5. Day 5: Pelling to Darjeeling (The Queen of the Hills): To the Tea Capital.

Bid farewell to West Sikkim and transfer across state lines into West Bengal to reach Darjeeling (6,700 ft). Spend a relaxed evening exploring the colonial-era architecture of Darjeeling Mall Road, browsing local woolens, and visiting boutique tea tasting rooms. Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

6. Day 6: Tiger Hill Sunrise & Darjeeling Seven Points Tour: Kanchenjunga Sunrise.

A 4:00 AM early start takes you up to Tiger Hill to witness the spectacular sunrise illuminating Mt. Kanchenjunga in brilliant golden shades (subject to permit availability). On your return, visit Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop.

Post breakfast, explore the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and the Himalayan Zoo. (Note: The Zoo and HMI are closed on Thursdays; the Darjeeling Ropeway is closed on the 19th of every month). Overnight stay in Darjeeling.

7. Day 7: Darjeeling to Bagdogra Airport & Departure: Return Flight to Mumbai.

After a hearty breakfast, begin the 5-hour descent back to Bagdogra. We intentionally factor in a mandatory 2-hour traffic safety buffer on this mountain highway route, ensuring your family arrives at the terminal relaxed and ready for your return flight back to Mumbai.

Important Hill Logistics & Document Regulations

Operating a premium, hassle-free Sikkim-Darjeeling trip requires clear compliance with local mountain transport syndicate codes and international border security guidelines.

1. Mandatory Point-to-Point Vehicle Policy

In accordance with regional transport syndicate guidelines across the Eastern Himalayas, private tourist vehicles operate on a strict, sector-wise, point-to-point basis. Vehicles are assigned to run specified geographical legs and are not “at your disposal” for unscheduled routes. The dedicated vehicle handling your Sikkim transfers will transition smoothly to a local West Bengal vehicle for your Darjeeling legs. This policy ensures your drivers possess expert familiarity with their respective terrains.

2. Permit Documentation Requirements (Border Security)

Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir are situated in heavily guarded, restricted border zones. To clear military checkposts, all travelers must provide 4 passport-sized photographs along with a valid physical, government-issued photo ID card (such as a passport, voter ID, or driving license).

Important Compliance Note:
Please note that digital copies, soft copies on mobile devices, or electronic formats of identification are not recognized at security checkpoints. Ensure physical documents are packed safely in your hand luggage.

Reviews from Our Mumbai Travelers

Being from Mumbai, we were worried about the vehicle changes we read about online. SunRaj Travels managed the ‘point-to-point’ transitions so well we didn’t even notice the change. The Pelling Skywalk was the highlight!”
The Kulkarni Family, Dadar

“Professional and transparent. They warned us about the physical photo ID card requirements well in advance, which saved our Tsomgo Lake trip. Highly recommended for families traveling with kids.”
Rajesh Mehta, Kandivali

“SunRaj’s timing for the Bagdogra drop-off was perfect. We thought leaving 7 hours before the flight was too much, but the mountain traffic is unpredictable. We made our Mumbai flight with ease!”
S. Mukherjee, Powai
